Asian Black Bear

This is the largest land animal in Shimane. Some can grow over 100 kg. They have thick, black fur with a distinctive crescent-shaped white marking on their chest. This is where the Japanese name comes from. They live in the forest and mainly eat acorns and other nuts, young shoots, etc.
