Sliced specimen

The buried wood was mostly Japanese cedar. This is a thin circular slice of one of them. The outside looks blackish but the inside has a lively color. Get closer to the cut end and smell it. The cut end has such a nice smell of cedar that you can hardly believe it is 4,000 years old.
